February: The library launches the Artist Curated Volume Display series, which invites an artist from the community to create a display of 10 items that inspire them from the library collections. Clarke will depict the sisters during the days of Jim Crow and admissible segregation, based upon stories from their book, Having Our Say: the Delaney Sisters' First 100 Years, by Sarah and Elizabeth Delaney with Amy Hill Hearth. : As part of Villainous History Month, Sandra Clarke, founder of the Jukwaa Theatre Company, will perform her new one woman line based upon the lives of the Delaney Sisters. Reconstructed through years of painstaking research, this richly illustrated history explores the rise and fall of black seafaring and the critical role sailors played in helping fashion new identities for black people in America. Prize-winning author Bolster, a resident of Portsmouth and longtime fellow of the University of New Hampshire History Department, will talk about the challenges of writing accurate history that crackles with theatre. The program is an opportunity for artists to share their work with the public and to emphasize how the public library is a resource for creativity. Thursday storytime is Babies on a Blanket featuring two stories,toys, stuffed animals and more on the quilt in the children's concern. This performance is sponsored by the library and the Seacoast African American Cultural Center (SAACC). Alongside the grandeur the artist will showcase an example of their work. 15, at 7 p. m. : As part of Black History Month, Jeffrey Support will present Black Jacks: African-American Seamen in the Age of Sail. In the end, it is a story about motherhood's choices: fundamental versus local, paper versus plastic, staying at home versus risking it all.
