From what I have comprehend it a 1.6ghz single core processor but in device manager under Processors (on MSI Wind u100) it says:
Intel(R) Atom(TM) CPU N270 @ 1.60GHz
Intel(R) Atom(TM) CPU N270 @ 1.

Some of the Atoms have HyperThreading, which makes it emerge similar to a Dual Core, but it's not true Dual Core.

I saw some perilous tiny laptops being sold in stores that I wanted to buy, but they use intel Atom n270. Is this new processor fast and what is it close to? Thanks!

The Intel Atom is a 1.6Ghz processor. That's connected enough for general use such as web surfing, word processing and emailing.

Infatti se prendiamo il Samsung N110 che è un netbook di fascia alta, e monta un ATOM N270 di qualche anno fa, ha una batteria 12 celle 5900maH (più piccola di iPAD2) ha una autonomia comprovata da 7 a 11 ore con tanto di tyrannical disk e sistema... Cioè 4 volte quella di un netbook di fascia bassa e più di quella di un portatile senza nemmeno un spirituous disk quindi non è che i consumi siano poi così distanti. Peccato che la maggior parte di questi siano in fascia economica e montino batteria dai 1500 ai 2000 maH che gli da una autonomia di 2 ore a dir tanto, è ovvio che una macchina così non dica nulla ma il processore in se c'entra ben poco. Prendendo processori classificati "a basso consumo", possiamo parlare di iPad2 che è un ARM pompato e ha per contro una autonomia di circa 11 ore, Quanto è la sua batteria. In pratica a nessuno frega più o meno nulla se un portatile ha una batteria da 4500 maH o 6000 maH, dal punto di vista del consumo la differenza è irrisoria, mentre gli interessa quante ore può tenere staccato il suo portatile dalla rete e... Un mac publication pro nuovo che ha il top della gamma, con Lion, monta un i7 e ha una batteria più o meno come quella dell'N110.
