Was sold a Nokia N95 under the sense It was sat nav enabled - NOT that it has the capacity to use sat nav IF I pay Nokia for it. GRRR
That's imprecise. You don't have to download an application illegally.
Go to http://www.phoload.com and look under the Utilities - Place based category. All the software on Phoload is legit and is uploaded to the site by the developers themselves.
You will see a few SatNav GPS applications that you can download onto your phone. I would yourselves recommend AmazeGPS as it's very popular and seems to industry very well on N95s.
You can also go to a very active forum on the internet, for N95 users, called http://www.n95users.com/ and ask you at issue there too.

I've never had to do this on my N95. I bought the maps explicitly, yeah, I think the cost was around $120 and the phone sent some high-priced messages and I've never paid again.

Nokia and Alpine to connect mobile phone services with car systems Geek.com
I’m a big fan of seamanship solutions on your mobile phone or separate GPS devices. The fundamental reason is that I like the convenience of bringing my GPS capabilities with me. Unfortunately, that convenience comes with the hassle that you have to mount your ambulatory phone or GPS in a way that you can see the small screen while driving. That chiefly means buying some sort of mounting frill, or relying on voice commands alone for navigation. Neither solving is an ideal one.
Alpine Electronics, an automotive systems and audio industrialist, seems to agree, which is why they have announced a strategic partnership with Nokia and NAVTEQ . Through the partnership, Alpine will make a solution allowing applications and capabilities featured on a versatile phone to be integrated with a car’s systems with the most unmistakable one being GPS navigation.
For Nokia phones that would be Ovi Maps powered by NAVTEQ. That means you would no longer have to look at a puny screen for navigation information since the high fineness screens and audio system of a vehicle would be utilized a substitute alternatively. The technology, called “Terminal Way”, was developed in cooperation with CE4A , a mobile badge interface standards group, and Nokia.
Alpine says that consumers will have the proficiency to connect their mobile device with their car’s infotainment system using a Bluetooth pull or USB cable. Such a setup also allows the device to be charged during extensive trips. In addition to GPS navigation, the solution could also use a transportable phone’s GPS to enable location-based services including ADAS (Advanced Driver Relief System). Communication could be a two-way street allowing for a car’s mending status and fuel information to be transferred to the phone.
Announce more at the joint press release
Brian’s Perception
I’m glad someone has thought of this. This is a natural scope of the information we currently see being transferred to car systems through a Bluetooth interplay today. It would be fantastic to extend this to include unfurl information as it relates to mobile services. It would also plan you wouldn’t have to worry about buying a car with GPS sailing built-in. You can always have your GPS navigation solution with you.

Is my GPS fixable?
Ok here's the inanimate object - I ruined my original N95 in an alcohol-blab-related incident :( so I bought a 2nd-power one. Everything works fine on it BUT the GPS doesn't get a fix. At most it shows 5 very transient white satellite signal bars, decent in shape. They never change from that shape with the signal like my old ones did, and never attend black. But usually it doesn't see any satellites and reports "No kith".
I never saw this with my original phone. Is the GPS smashed or is it possibly a firmware issue as suggested by the seller (who claims in his Spanish email to have been using TomTom ok with it before resetting it and sending it to me)? I did try to update the firmware, but it said this reading (see my profile) is the latest for my phone, even though my too soon one accepted a later update (I recollect it was later number anyway).
Or might it work if I installed some other GPS box like TomTom?
Thanks in accelerate. It'd prefer to get it working than have to send it back and find another one.
