I have a USB based GPS unit and a laptop. So rather than drop $ 1000 on a marine GPS, I'm hoping to find decent software and just put the laptop with me. Makes a good software for that? I'm looking on the internet but not finding much.
instead of risking your laptop, all alone with moisture, not to mention the rain or splashing, I look a little expensive navy.

you'll need a camera that accepts smart charts. Garmin is the best choice. will accept your GPS chips marine? beside your choice may be a portable device and forget the laptop.

the best software for an occasional sailor is your brain and a paper map of where you are and how to use it ...... for $ 50 .... perhaps less ....... you can get three cards in your area .......

Hello, Trying to buy a GPS unit for my boat Marine husbands. I need a card from the Atlantic Ocean, he lives in Morocco and uses it in the Atlantic Ocean. I do not think with that and I do not know where to buy one, they all have the mapping of the United States.
Try to buy Lowrance or Garmin, both have world maps that you can buy an SD card. You need to know what part of the Atlantic Ocean will be the area of your husband needs.
