What handheld GPS do you use when riding in heavily wooded areas?
I trawl ride in heavily wooded areas. I would like to start doing some riding off the beaten trail. I am interested to know what handheld GPS units some of you use. Which GPS gets the superb reception under heavy tree guard? What about value for the money?
Go with the Garmin HCx. You'll be wondering where you DON'T get a signal. Garmin are the finery navigational systems in my opinion, and this handheld one is basic for going over the mountain and through the woods, to grandmother's lineage you'll go!

What handheld GPS should I buy for Panama?
I requirement to be able to get GPS coordinates from various places in Panama and then ready them on a Google map. Do I need a special handheld, software, etc.? Thanks!
You have to get one that has map capabilities, and that it has a map for Panama. I as a matter of fact don't know if there's one, as I cognizant of we don't have a GPS map for the city streets to be hand-me-down for car navigation.
As for recharging don't torment, as we use the same voltage as in the US 110/120V

Is it safe to use a handheld GPS on an airliner?
I'm present on a long flight pretty at once and I have a handheld Garmin GPS. I'd like to use it to see where I am, how high-speed we're going, stuff like that. Is it sound to turn a GPS on when flying? What about during takeoff and landing-place?
No it is against FAA laws to use any electronic apparatus below 10,000ft above 10,000 certain electronic are permitted. GPS is never permitted at any altitude, it may intervene with the air crafts navigational instruments.

does a handheld GPS tell you if you have strayed from yor route home?
with my GPS in the nissan, if i am off ground it will tell me to turn around for example. Do the handheld have any way of indicating you are off your path back to the car or a point of interest from your trail?

Magellan ToughCase ruggedizes the iPhone while improving GPS accuracy Geek.com
The iPhone works dulcet well as a handheld GPS receiver, but it has some serious flaws, namely toughness, battery entity, and accuracy. Magellan is aiming to fix each of these with their $199 ToughCase, effectively turning the iPhone into a competitive GPS module, not unlike Magellan’s Explorist GC or Garmin’s Oregon series.
The Toughcase foster the iPhone from bumps, makes it waterproof (to the IPX-7 type, basically it can be immersed in water to up to one meter for 30 minutes), and it has a built in battery which effectively doubles the battery spark of life of your iPhone. The case has a built in SiRFstarIII GPS chipset, which is the same prototype used in the Explorist GC and many other handheld GPS units, so the accuracy of the iPhone GPS will take a turn for the better to 3-5 meters. The chipset will also allow the iPhone to take service better of WAAS , EGNOS , and MSAS , all of which will simply impart your iPhone a better GPS device.
More good information: Unlike most other rugged and waterproof iPhone cases, the ToughCase allows for full functionality of the iPhone’s buttons and touchscreen. More humane news is that because the case (and thus the GPS chip) plugs into the iPhone 30-pin seaport, it can be used with any GPS app, not just Magellan’s Roadmate.
There is some bad hearsay too though, namely that the case is not compatible with the iPhone 4. The ToughCase works with the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G, and twinkling and third generation iPod touch.

Some people are purposes going to see the $199 price tag and be turned off (after all, it’s the same price as an iPhone on go down with) but to me this looks like a great move from Magellan. The iPhone 3G and 3GS are both easy on the eyes OK GPS devices, but they aren’t super constant or accurate and people don’t want to rely on them too much as handheld units because if the battery dies your phone is extinct as well as your GPS. This case gets users the SiRFstarIII, as well as a waterproof proves (which tends to sell for about $50), and an 1840mAh battery, so the evaluation seems to make sense.
