I have infatuated up backcountry skiing over the past couple of seasons, and am interested in expanding my skiing locations. I want to get a GPS colophon to help guide me. Does anyone have recommendations?
I use a Garmin E-Trex. It's negligible and rubberized so it's durable and water resistant. It was also pretty cheap, around 100 bones.

The Garmin Colorado and the Magellan Tritons are very subtle. I would get one with a rechargeable battery and take extras.

Spring skiing in the Blow Me Down backcountry

In the initially part of the spring you can put on skins close to sea level, but usually when we head there in late April and early May you will be walking with your skis over your candidly for the first couple of kilometres until you reach consistent... Although some of these were summer hikes the majority of trips were done on skis and accessed by what is known as Copper Mine Brook technique. There was a time in the first few years after we moved to Corner Brook in the early 1980’s that we would record all of our hiking and skiing trips on 1:50,000 topographic maps. In the advanced years, we simply used our cross-country skis and boots, but most people now use metal edged land touring gear since they give more control. The carefully placed pencil lines criss-crossed all over various locations and the all set that had the most lines was the Blow Me Down Mountains. The Copper Mine Brook road is not really a road anymore and is currently in really rough shape, but is still easy to follow. Unlike the new hiking trail and large parking lot, Copper Mine Brook street is not marked at the start, but the co-ordinates are: 49 03. This route is not to be confused with the new Copper Mine Cape hiking trail that climbs to the top of Stack Me Down Mountain. 349 W and work your way through the trees you will get to a small valley which takes you to the upper barrens where you can pretty much ski anywhere. Often out of the ordinary groups would camp there at Easter and the best place for camping was usually a clump of trees at 49 01.
